A comforting and delicious Southern dish made with sautéed cabbage, crispy bacon, and sweet onions, perfect as a side or main dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy.
  2. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sauté until translucent.
  4. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet and stir, cooking until cabbage is tender.
  5. Add the bacon back to the skillet and mix well.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, eliminate the bacon and use olive oil for sautéing. Consider adding crushed red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.
