Deliciously sticky and sweet Char Siu chicken marinated for rich flavor and grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey (substitute with maple syrup if preferred)
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce (or mix soy sauce with sugar)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (tamari is a gluten-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon warm spices (preferably five-spice powder)
  • 4 pieces skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional garnish)
  • 2 stalks green onions (or substitute with chives)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and warm spices in a mixing bowl until well combined.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well coated. Allow them to marinate for at least 15 minutes — longer if you have time.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the chicken thighs for about 6-8 minutes per side or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. Remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

For enhanced flavor, marinate the chicken for longer if possible. Use good quality chicken thighs for the best results.
