A simplified yet delicious recipe for General Tso’s Chicken, featuring a sweet and savory sauce that enhances tender chicken.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Green onions, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the chicken pieces with soy sauce and cornstarch. Mix well and let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add garlic and ginger; sauté briefly until fragrant.
  4. Pour in chicken broth, rice vinegar, sugar, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil; stir to combine. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
  5. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional few minutes to heat through.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For extra heat, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes or Sriracha. Let the chicken rest after cooking for better texture.
