Succulent turkey smash burgers with a crispy outside and juicy inside, perfect for family dinners and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground turkey (85% lean preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices cheddar or American cheese (optional)
  • 4 burger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mayo, ketchup, mustard, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.
  2. Divide the seasoned turkey into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a loose ball without pressing too firmly, as they will be smashed on the skillet.
  3. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
  4. Once hot, place the turkey balls onto the skillet. Use a spatula to firmly smash each ball into a thin patty.
  5. Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side until the edges are crispy and browned.
  6. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3 minutes. If using cheese, add a slice on top of each patty and let it melt.
  7. Toast the burger buns if you desire.
  8. Spread mayonnaise or your preferred condiments on the buns and add your toppings.
  9. Place the turkey patties on the buns and serve hot.

Notes

Chill the turkey mixture in the fridge for about 30 minutes before cooking to help maintain shape. Consider adding cayenne pepper for a kick.
