Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 whole wheat hamburger buns
  • 1/2 cup sliced avocado
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, finely chopped red onion, and olive oil.
  2. Add chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
  3. Crack the egg into the mixture and mix thoroughly using your hands or a spoon.
  4. Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties.
  5. Place the patties on the preheated grill or grill pan and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  6. Toast the whole wheat hamburger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
  7. Spread salsa on the bottom half of each bun, place a burger patty on top, and add sliced avocado and chopped cilantro.
  8. Cap each burger with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Avoid overworking the turkey to keep the patties tender and juicy. Use a meat thermometer to ensure proper cooking.
