A quick and satisfying dish that combines the sweetness of honey with savory sesame oil, featuring golden, crisp chicken and tender broccoli.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 ½ tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (finely grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 – 1 ½ pounds boneless skinless chicken breast (cut into 12 inch pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 cups broccoli florets (about 2 crowns)
  • 2 whole green onions (diced)

Instructions

  1. Steam the broccoli in a pot with water and salt for 6 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, water, sesame oil, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, minced garlic, cornstarch, and sesame seeds; set aside.
  3. In a plastic zipper bag, coat chicken pieces with cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, cook chicken in a single layer, flipping to brown all sides.
  5. Once the chicken is cooked, pour the sauce over it and bring to a simmer until it thickens.
  6. Add the broccoli to the skillet, toss to combine, sprinkle with green onions, and serve warm.

Notes

Patience is key when cooking chicken; avoid overcrowding the skillet for even browning. Toast sesame seeds for extra flavor and texture.
