Ingredients

Scale
  • 30 chicken wings
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin
  • 1/2 cup honey (or maple syrup, or agave)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large bowl, mix olive oil, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Add chicken wings and toss until well coated.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together soy sauce, Mirin, honey, water, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  4. Pour the honey garlic mixture over the chicken wings, mixing well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Place the marinated wings on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, flipping them halfway.
  8. Mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to create a slurry and add it to the leftover marinade. Bring to a gentle boil and stir until thickened.
  9. Brush the thickened sauce over the cooked wings.
  10. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the wings before serving.

Notes

Pat the chicken wings dry for crispiness. Consider marinating overnight for enhanced flavor.
