A simple yet delicious Chicken Parmesan baked to perfection, combining crispy chicken, rich marinara, and gooey cheese for a comforting meal.

  • 2 large chicken breasts, sliced horizontally into 4 pieces
  • 1 cup fine breadcrumbs (plain or Italian-style)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Olive oil spray or 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: dried oregano, basil, or red pepper flakes for added flavor
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the chicken breasts horizontally into 4 thin pieces, seasoning them with salt and pepper.
  3. In a bowl, beat the egg. In another bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper together.
  4. Dip each chicken piece in the beaten egg and coat it thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Place the coated chicken on a greased baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil for an extra crunch.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through for an even bake.
  7. After 20 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven. Top each piece with marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella, and more grated Parmesan.
  8. Return to the oven to bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles.

Notes

For a crispier topping, switch to broil during the last couple of minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
