A delicious blend of spicy chicken, melted cheese, and crispy rolls for a satisfying meal that brings back nostalgic memories.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound chicken breast
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1/2 sliced pickled jalapeños, roughly chopped (optional)
  • 3/8 cup Frank’s RedHot
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese
  • Ranch or blue cheese dressing

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breast in the freezer for 30-45 minutes to make it easier to slice.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Spread butter on the interior of the hoagie rolls, then sprinkle with garlic powder. Arrange them on a baking sheet in a single layer and set aside.
  3. Remove the chicken from the freezer and slice it as thinly as possible. Chop it into smaller pieces, about 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch. Toss the chicken with extra garlic powder and salt, then set aside.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and melt two tablespoons of butter. Add the onions and jalapeños (if using) and sauté for 7-8 minutes until the onions soften and become slightly translucent. Transfer to a bowl, cover, and set aside.
  5. Bake the hoagie rolls for five minutes to get a crispy exterior.
  6. While the rolls bake, add the chicken to the hot skillet, increase the heat to high, and cook for about 5 minutes, tossing occasionally, until the chicken turns a golden brown.
  7. Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the Frank’s RedHot and stir until the chicken is nicely coated.
  8. Top the chicken mixture with Provolone cheese slices. Allow the cheese to melt over the hot chicken.
  9. Use a spatula to transfer the chicken and melted cheese mixture to the warmed hoagie rolls.
  10. Finish by topping with the sautéed onion and jalapeño mixture. Serve warm.

Notes

Experiment with butter amounts and adjust the spice level with Frank’s RedHot. Enhance with extra toppings if desired.
